EMMANUEL
I was asked to
write a song for my church's Christmas carol service and this was the
result! It comes at the whole christmas thing from a different
perspective from usual.
He left
the throne room of heaven for a manger of straw
A banquet up above for a lowly stable floor
He left heaven’s gates, took off his kingly robe
God was on this earth, a million miles from home
On that
night angels sang ‘Glory to the Lord’
Shepherds came and knelt, worshipped and adored
Did they understand that the child that they saw
Was God himself, in human form?
Emmanuel,
God is with us
Emmanuel, He is Lord
Unto us a son is given
Unto us a child is born
If He
hadn’t left the Father and made this world his home
There’d be no hope of freedom and we would be alone
We know how much God loves us; He sent his only son
If must have been so hard, but He knew he had to come
